Danny Nguyen shows how to use plug in automation in Pro Tools 10 using a snare track. He finds a simple EQ and puts a low pass filter on the track, playing before and after so that you can hear the differences in the sound, such as high frequencies being cut off. He then does some bypass automation on the track.
Danny Nguyen works in Pro Tools 10 and demonstrates how to use compression; which brings down high levels and brings up low levels. He sets up a kick track and goes through the motions, but he does not, however explain where and when you should use compression in your own mixing. The general consensus is to make those decisions after listening to individual recordings.
Danny Nguyen does another tutorial on how to use reverb in Pro Tools 10. He demonstrates on a hi hat track using the Dverb plugin. He recommends starting with factory settings if you’re new to using reverb or plugins in general, so that you get acclimated with what they do. He creates an aux track (he is working with a mono source) and toggles between the mix and edit windows to show the process.
