Jim Bond’s Fruityloops & FL Studio Template
I was checking out an “FL Studio” session someone sent me and remembered how much I like my own basic beat making template. This is the template I have been using for about 5 years now. Unfortunately, because of the clowns over at “FL Studio”, it is IMPOSSIBLE to create your own template like this (details on that below). So feel free to download this one and make some bangers!
In this template you have all your basics covered and clearly set up. You have…
- Two channels for samples.
-Kick/snare/hihat/etc/etc channels for your electronic & sampled drums.
-10 channels for various instruments which bus to an instrument bus.
-3 bassline channels. No idea why I have 3 of them
-3 room/overhead mic channels, for your live drum vsts/recordings.
- Hi Hat & Cymbals channel busing to a his bus.
-3 separate Tom channels, which is absolutely complete overkill.
-An extra percussion channel.
-1 recording channel.
-4 sends.
Note: All of the drum channels both for the live & not live are bused to the Drum Bus.
Even though the channels in FL are set to 78% by default (AKA the reason why people think FL Studio sounds “bad”), I have the mixer channels taken down to 70%. This is generally a good thing to practice when mixing & beat making. Start with the levels low, then work your way up. Not the other way around.
I think you got everything covered with this template, unless you really want to get crazy. Of course you can use some of these channels for other things, but if you do you will be forced to change the nice color coding because…
Quick rant.
A while back, the color nazis over at Fruityloops decided that bright colors (Like black… :\) were apparently not in line with the new more “professional” looking FL Studio. So now you only have the option to use different shades of 7 colors which are almost indistinguishable from one another. All the while, pretty much every other professional DAW in the world lets you choose any colors you want to use.
