I don’t know why, but for some reason a lot of people have a misconception about gospel music. Gospel through the late 60s/70s and even the early 80′s was every bit as soulful/funky/sampleable as it’s secular counterparts. You just need to look a little harder to find it. Also don’t forget that Gospel is where many of our favorite Soul singers got their starts (Aretha, Sam Cooke, OV Wright, Wilson Pickett, etc). Here is a little selection of some soulful/funky gospel…
