The last few weeks I’ve come across a few discussions online about whether or not you should tag your music when shopping it. So I figured I’d throw in my two cents about the pros and cons of tagging your music & my general theories on it. Here is a handy color coded guide for your reading pleasures… PRO & CON…
For about 7 years, I have used tags on my tracks. Here is an example of how I do it.
Rule: #1 Don’t Ask to send music… JUST SEND IT!
If you are going to e-mail someone and ask if you can send them some music, don’t ask… JUST SEND THE MUSIC. Responding back with an email can take just as long as listening to a few of your beats/songs/limericks/etc. So save whoever you are asking the time & just include the music from the start. If they don’t want to listen to your music, or it’s too late for a beat submission or whatever, they won’t do it anyway. If you are worried about being seen as rude by attaching music in the first e-mail, just add this to the end of your e-mail.
“I’ve attached some of my music if you do have the time. Thank you”
If anyone is offended by that, they would probably be even more offended by you asking for a response to send music before you send it.
