I thought it would be a great idea to iron out a simple format, so whenever you send a track to some A&R, artist, manager, etc, you will make it as simple as possible for them to track you down when they want your music… Believe it or not, a good percentage of producers/artists/managers send out mp3′s that make it very difficult to track them down. When I need specific information quickly, often the first place I’ll check is an internet forum. Internet forums are the one place where the most knowledgeable, obsessive and helpful people around the world can easily get together to talk shop. BUT you need to remind yourself that a good deal of the people who claim to know about & have experience with certain subjects most likely have none at all. They may not even remotely be in a position to give ANYONE advice or creative input…

The last few weeks I’ve come across a few discussions online about whether or not you should tag your music when shopping it. So I figured I’d throw in my two cents about the pros and cons of tagging your music & my general theories on it. Here is a handy color coded guide for your reading pleasures… PRO & CON…
For about 7 years, I have used tags on my tracks. Here is an example of how I do it.
Rule: #1 Don’t Ask to send music… JUST SEND IT!
If you are going to e-mail someone and ask if you can send them some music, don’t ask… JUST SEND THE MUSIC. Responding back with an email can take just as long as listening to a few of your beats/songs/limericks/etc. So save whoever you are asking the time & just include the music from the start. If they don’t want to listen to your music, or it’s too late for a beat submission or whatever, they won’t do it anyway. If you are worried about being seen as rude by attaching music in the first e-mail, just add this to the end of your e-mail.
“I’ve attached some of my music if you do have the time. Thank you”
If anyone is offended by that, they would probably be even more offended by you asking for a response to send music before you send it.
