Producer Psychology 101: Avoiding “Fu@# You Syndrome” & Taking Losses Like A Man! by Jim Bond

cash_birdHi.  My name is Jim.  I used to write for this blog way back in the day.  Since my last post*, I have found a new calling.  I am officially an internet marketing nerd.  My goal is figuring out how to make a modest amount of  money online in a completely passive manner.   I have been focusing ALL of my time toward it the last couple months…

What this nonsense has to do with Being A Better Producer…

I recently took my first big loss in internet marketing (read about it here).  While reflecting on it, it reminded me about the losses I took while trying to break into the music biz, how I reacted to them and how I see others react to their own losses.  So I decided to delve into the psychological aspects of success and failure in the music biz…

pros-and-cons

New Rules: #1 Don’t Ask To Send Music… JUST SEND IT!

The Be A Better Producer Blog’s “New Rules” lays out some basic rules that everyone should follow.  Simple and easy…

Rule: #1  Don’t Ask to send music… JUST SEND IT!

newrulesIf you are going to e-mail someone and ask if you can send them some music, don’t ask…  JUST SEND THE MUSIC.  Responding back with an email can take just as long as listening to a few of your beats/songs/limericks/etc.   So save whoever you are asking the time & just include the music from the start.  If they don’t want to listen to your music, or it’s too late for a beat submission or whatever, they won’t do it anyway.  If you are worried about being seen as rude by attaching music in the first e-mail, just add this to the end of your e-mail.

“I’ve attached some of my music if you do have the time.  Thank you”

If anyone is offended by that, they would probably be even more offended by you asking for a response to send music before you send it.

Window Of Opportunity #1… G-Unit Beat Submission

g-unit_beat_submissionI’m going to be heading over to G-Unit (And probably an extra label or 2) some time next week.   I am taking beat submissions from all the Be A Better Producer Blog readers, to bring up there.  I have helped place another producer’s track w/ 50 Cent and placed one of my own tracks w/ Lloyd Banks.  So I do have a decent track record. As far as the music goes, I don’t want to hear any soft stuff.  Even if you have a club type joint, it better hit hard.   I see all of you are spread out all over the world, so lets find some new talent!  Update:  They need “uptempo BANGERS for 50′s next single – between 90 and 93 bpms. Still hood though!”

How To Place Beats: Networking to “Bright Lights Big City”

A bunch of people have been asking me how I placed the “Bright Lights Big City” track with Jim Jones. It was pretty easy actually. I Didn’t need a grand scheme or plan (which has worked for me before). I’ll try to make this sound as interesting as possible… but its really not. This is a straight forward example of how real networking pays off.
